Starfield Incorporates a Jail Mechanism Reminiscent of Skyrim’s

Bethesda has provided deeper insights into their forthcoming space RPG, Starfield, noting a jail system akin to Skyrim’s.

Bethesda’s eagerly anticipated sci-fi RPG, Starfield, will incorporate a prison mechanism reminiscent of Skyrim’s. With many labeling it as “Skyrim in the cosmos”, this space odyssey seems to carry over some features familiar to Elder Scrolls aficionados. The gaming community’s anticipation has only heightened with Starfield reaching its gold status and the commencement of pre-loading.

Capitalizing on this escalating excitement, Bethesda hosted a Starfield Q&A on August 16. Constellation group members were invited to join the official Bethesda Game Studios Discord, where they interacted with key figures like Lead Game Designer Emil Pagliarulo and Lead Quest Designer Will Shen.

A notable revelation was Starfield’s judiciary system, bearing a strong resemblance to Skyrim’s. Within the Settled Systems of Starfield, players must adhere to the law. Lawbreakers can choose to surrender, facing imprisonment or fines. However, the daring can opt to resist and flee. As Pagliarulo highlighted, “The Settled Systems mirror Skyrim more closely than Fallout 4’s Commonwealth.”

In Skyrim, prolonged imprisonment can dent a character’s spirits and hinder skill growth. It remains to be seen whether these consequences transition to Starfield, or if secret jailbreaks are an option. Given Starfield’s exploration of “crime and consequences in a futuristic setting”, it’s plausible to expect varied prison experiences.

Starfield will also introduce a Contraband system. Items like harvested organs are forbidden, and the context surrounding such acquisitions remains shrouded in mystery. To elude discovery, players can employ unique ship modules that shield contraband from security ships’ scrutiny.

The Q&A participants expressed enthusiasm about potentially being a spy within dual factions. Drawing parallels with Skyrim once again, Starfield players can align with multiple factions simultaneously, culminating in pivotal decisions about allegiance. Using the Crimson Fleet and UC SysDef as an example, Pagliarulo and Shen illustrated scenarios of espionage and eventual siding. Bethesda reassures that each in-game faction offers standalone completion, promising an engaging array of choices for players.
