Native HDR

This plugin upgrades the game’s swapchain to either scRGB or HDR10. It is basically a cleaner, Starfield-specific way of doing what SpecialK or the ReShade AutoHDR addon does.

This is not a full HDR solution (…yet?). It still requires AutoHDR-like tonemapping through a ReShade shader, until someone manages to reverse engineer the game’s tonemapping shader. But it still looks better than Windows AutoHDR (which doesn’t even run on the Steam version by default), should have less banding because of the format, and is a lot more configurable.

There are two modes available, you can change it to HDR10 instead of scRGB by editing the NativeHDR.toml config file and changing scRGB to false.

The required shaders:
– For scRGB (scRGB = true in config) – PumboAutoHDR or Lilium’s HDR shaders
– For HDR10 (scRGB = false in config) – PumboAutoHDR or Lilium’s HDR shaders or AutoHDR-ReShade; In case of the last one, do not use the ReShade .addon itself (this plugin does more or less the same thing except it doesn’t crash Starfield while doing so), just the .fx file as your usual shader in ReShade.

IMPORTANT: The scRGB format is not supported by Nvidia’s DLSS Frame Generation, so if you’re using that, you’ll have to use HDR10. Set scRGB = false in the config file or you’ll crash. You also likely already have ReShade as well then.

Please don’t ask for support with the AutoHDR shaders themselves, I don’t know the details. I’m just making it possible to use them.

The colors will be messed up if you don’t use one of the linked shaders.
Do not use if your monitor does not actually support HDR. The colors will be completely broken.
