Is Starfield Coming to PS5?

The game everyone’s been waiting for in 2023 is set to launch on September 6th. After years of dedicated development by Bethesda, fans are eagerly awaiting the chance to delve into the enthralling gameplay and unravel the secrets of the cosmos.
Will Starfield Be Available On PS5?
Starfield, Bethesda’s highly anticipated space RPG, has taken a departure from the release patterns of their iconic franchises like the Elder Scrolls and Fallout. While these games found homes on multiple platforms, including both PlayStation and Xbox, Starfield is charting a different course. This eagerly awaited title will not grace PlayStation consoles. Instead, it’s launching exclusively for Xbox Series X | S and PC. Aaron Greenberg, a prominent figure at Xbox, has confirmed this exclusivity. Moreover, the game’s official reveal trailer further solidified its platforms, showcasing its availability on Xbox Cloud, Xbox Game Pass, PC, and Steam. PlayStation enthusiasts might have to look elsewhere for their space-faring adventures this time around.
What’s Keeping Starfield Off the PS5?
It’s a significant disappointment for many fans that the much-anticipated game, Starfield, won’t be accessible to everyone. There were whispers that Starfield was in the works for PS5 until Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda shifted its trajectory to an Xbox-exclusive.
In a landmark deal back in 2021, Microsoft bought ZeniMedia, the parent entity of Bethesda, for a staggering $7.5 billion. This merger meant ZeniMedia, and by extension, Bethesda’s forthcoming titles would prioritize Xbox platforms.
Surprisingly, Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, mentioned during an FTC discussion about the Microsoft-Activision merger, that there were rumblings of Sony aiming to secure Starfield as a PlayStation exclusive. However, Microsoft’s ZeniMax acquisition ensured that Starfield wouldn’t grace PS5 or PS4 consoles.
While many still hold onto a glimmer of hope that Starfield might eventually find its way to PS5, no current indications support this possibility. For now, fans can look forward to the game’s release on PC and Xbox Series X|S on September 6, 2023, with early access launching on September 1, 2023.
